Ear Cytology with Reflex Culture & Sensitivity Kit
QSM offers a gold standard mail-in test kit that will provide you and your client with cytology results within 24 hours of receiving the sample AND if there are signs of infection on the cytology, C&S results for aerobic bacteria are available 4-5 days after we receive the sample.
This is the gold standard of care test that should be done to best diagnose and treat a bacterial ear infection (bacterial culture identification). Having these test results ready during the exam will help you diagnose the cause of the dog's symptoms. This is critical for antibiotic stewardship. Our mail-in test provides the most information for you to determine a diagnosis and treatment plan. In addition to cytology, all ear samples are tested for Pseudomonas using our patented QSM Otter technology. Our lab prepares the slides and runs the test from the provided swabs. The report provides semi-quantitative results for mites, yeast, bacteria (cocci and rods), white blood cells, red blood cells, and skin cells in a format that is commonly used by reference laboratories. All reports include 100x magnification images of the slide for you to review, so you can trust the results. Both cytology and QSM Pseudomonas test results are provided within 24 hours of receiving the sample.
